FAQ

What supervision is provided?

Campers are supervised throughout the day and night by college-aged counselors as well a full time athletic trainer.

Is transportation provided?

For transportation to the camp, pick-ups can be scheduled for free for athletes flying into Charlottesville Airport (CHO) or the Amtrak Station. Once at camp, we provide all transportation.

Where are students housed?

All athletes are housed at St. Anne's-Belfield, a local boarding school about 1/4 mile from the UVA Campus (2132 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903). Housing and meals are included in the cost of camp.

What should athletes bring to camp?

Bedding (twin bed), pillow, towels, toiletries, sunscreen, spandex, spandex, light and breathable workout clothes, running shoes, sandals, hat, water bottle, spending money - rooms can get a bit cold at night so a light pillow might be good as well.

When/where should athletes check-in/out?

Check-in is Sunday at 1pm at St. Anne's-Belfield. Check-out time is Thursday at 11am.

What do coxswains learn?

Our coxswains receive coxswain specific development, focused on understanding what both rowers and coaches look for - including race preparation and steering instruction. Coxswains also learn to row so that they understand the perspective of rowers, which makes them better coxswains.

How is our camp different from other camps?

Our camp is as close to as guaranteed for perfect water as anywhere in the country. The Rivanna Reservoir is a beautiful body of protected water - no gas motorboats are allowed on the water (other than coaching boats). Additionally, we coach both sweep and sculling so that all rowers and coxswains will have learned a lifelong skill of sculling while becoming a better oarswoman.

Can a true novice attend the camp?

Yes, at the first practice we divide the skill level accordingly so that newer rowers can learn together and more experienced rowers can learn together.
